Meet Nigel~

Meet Nigel~

I have been an absolute animal lover my entire life! I love when my guests share their photos and stories of their pets with me while they are staying at my rentals! Tonight  I received this sweet note from our guests at The Winchester Peak Chalet about their sweet rescue Nigel who had a terrible beginning but now has a beautiful life!

“Hi Rheannon! I wanted to share these photos of Nigel with the pet toy you so kindly provided. We actually forgot to bring any of his toys and he quickly adopted this one.

Thanks so much!

B & D

PS Nigel is a very well behaved rescue dog from Cabo. He was used as a bait dog in pit bull fights where he lost an eye. Good friends of ours rescued him about 18 months ago and we are the lucky ones!”

Although reading Nigel’s story is so heartbreaking, it also fills my heart with joy to see him happy and free! While visiting us here at Mt. Baker Rim he gets to head on over to the dog off leash area and run and play by the river and relax by the cozy fire in the evening. I’m so thankful for people like  his mom and dad B & D who have hearts of gold and give these kinds of dogs the life they deserve! ❤️

I never get tired of taking in the beauty of this area! I took this photo of Mt. Baker tonight on my evening walk around Mt. Baker Rim with one of my boys and our pup Layla.

Snow Capped Peak Just Outside The Heron’s Nest

Snow Capped Peak Just Outside The Heron’s Nest

Late autumn, and early winter are very beautiful times of year in Glacier. Though the leaves are mostly gone off the deciduous trees, the sun often shines, and the light snowfall on the lower elevation mountains looks like a little sugar coated top. I always look forward to the reflection of a snow capped  Church Mountain  in the Snowline Pond on a sunny early winter day. This photo was taken just outside our rental The Heron’t Nest!

Late Fall Beauty at the Mt. Baker Ski Area~

Late Fall Beauty at the Mt. Baker Ski Area~

The Mt. Baker Ski Area is already seeing some fluffy white snow, and we could’t be more excited! Winter’s well on it’s way here in Glacier WA! Some people have been asking us if the ski area will be open this winter, and the answer is yes! Main operations will take place this year out of the Heather Meadows upper base area instead of the White Salmon lower lodge. Some Covid restrictions will be in place, so check the ski area’s web site for more details.

NOAA Calling For a Snowy Winter At Mt. Baker!

The NOAA (National Oceanic & Atmospheric Association) is calling for a colder wetter winter than usual this year. The snow has already started flying up at the Mt. Baker Ski Area, and it’s only October. We are hoping they are right!

Fall Beauty!

Fall Beauty!

Fall is my favorite time of year around Glacier. The Broad Leaf Maple trees turn their beautiful golden yellow and line the entire Mt. Baker Highway around Glacier. The Vine Maples turn all different shades of red, orange, yellow, and peach marbled together. This little tree on the Snowline Pond just outside The Heron’s Nest is always a treat in the fall too! What a marvelous time of year!

Mt. Baker Ski Area to Open…

What Does Komo Kulshan Mean?

Mt. Baker has many names. Before the arrival of Europeans it was known as Komo Kulshan, meaning “Great White Watcher”. Our newest vacation rental is called “The Kulshan Cabin”, and it was named after Mt. Baker.

Fresh Snow!

Fresh Snow!

It’s finally snowing again! Church Mountain is glowing in all its Beauty this morning with a fresh dusting of snow twinkling in the bright sunshine. It’s a gorgeous day in Glacier! Snow levels are expected to rise back up mid week, but drop back down again by next Sunday bringing some fresh snow down as low as 2000 ft.
