Mushrooms

Mushrooms

Autumn around Mt. Baker is the perfect time for mushroom hunting. Here in Glacier you can find both Chanterelle’s, & Morel’s. Right now the mushrooms are popping up everywhere, so it’s the perfect time to start hunting! However, mushroom hunting is best left to experts, as there are many poisonous varieties around Mt. Baker, and Glacier, WA, so if you don’t know exactly what you are doing you could end up with a look alike, or false Morel.

The ones pictured above are NOT edible, just beautiful to look at. There are many different varieties of mushrooms in the area, and they are all fun to photograph, so bring your camera and enjoy this beautiful sunny fall weather we are having!

My husband Kelsey took this gorgeous photo of the sunset up at Artist Point which is located at the end of the Mt. Baker Hwy up past the Mt. Baker Ski Area.

Beautiful Fall Hike up Winchester Mountain!

Beautiful Fall Hike up Winchester Mountain!

This photo is on the way up Winchester Mountain. This hike is my favorite one up here due to the fact that it has amazing views 180 degrees around once you reach the top, yet only takes an hour to an hour and a half depending on how fast you hike to complete. My kids (9 & 11) can also do it with no problems. It begins right in between the two twin lakes up at the top of Twin Lakes Rd.

The 3 Mountain peaks in the photo above are a unique little landmark for this area because they are on the line where Canada and America meet.

The three peaks that are all side by side together are as follows:              The farthest to the left is Canadian Border Peak, the middle is American Border Peak, and the one on the right is the beautiful Mt. Larrabee.

Fall is a perfect time for this hike! The wildflowers are in full bloom and the blueberries are still out.

Beautiful Moss!

Beautiful Moss!

I love how even in late summer the moss up at the Mt. Baker Ski Area is still bright green just like in the spring.

Clear sunny skies and peaceful woods.

Clear sunny skies and peaceful woods.

I love the peaceful, calm, atmosphere that the Mt. Baker woods have to offer. As you walk the trails you can hear the birds singing and the rivers waters rolling down the mountains. It is such a relaxing place to come to escape the busy rush, and noise of the city!

One of my favorite trails here in Glacier WA

One of my favorite trails here in Glacier WA

Today was a beautiful day for a walk in the forest. Late summer weather near Mt. Baker can still be pretty hot during the day but by September it is often followed by cool refreshing nights. The weather today was gorgeous! My husband took our lovely family dog Layla on one of her favorite off leash walks here in Glacier. This trail follows along the river in some parts and offers some nice shady areas to cool off. We offer maps for these trails in all our rental homes if you would like to check them out on your visit to Mount Baker.

Late Summer

Late Summer

The late summer is a perfect time to visit Glacier. The crowds have dwindled down, school has begun, but the weather is still beautiful, and the flowers are still blooming. The hikes this time of year are perfect because the temperature is a little cooler but everything is still in full bloom in the mountains and there are still fresh wild mountain blueberries everywhere!
